Not long after our NYC bar crawl in Lower Manhattan, we had the opportunity to pub crawl in Astoria, Queens.  We always have a great time bar hopping in Astoria.  We’ll share a few thoughts on our recent Astoria visit in the coming days.

We recently went NYC bar hopping in Chelsea and Greenwich Village, visiting spots such as The Woodstock and Bar Freud.  In the coming days, we’ll share some brief thoughts on those two spots, among others.  Stay tuned.

Save water, drink beer!

It was 85 years ago today that the first part of repeal of Prohibition took place, making beer legal again in the United States.  How will you mark the occasion?

How will you celebrate Scottish Pride today?  Our NYC Bar(s) of the Day: Caledonia Pub, which has two Manhattan locations; one at 1609 Second Avenue and the other at 424 Amsterdam Avenue.

On this first day of Major League Baseball’s regular season, our NYC Bar of the Day: Standings Bar, located at 43 East 7th Street in Manhattan’s East Village.

On this Vernal Equinox, our NYC Bar of the Day: Spring Lounge, located at 48 Spring Street in Manhattan’s Little Italy.

We recently had the opportunity to pub crawl through Astoria.  We always enjoy our visits to Astoria and wish we could do so more often.  Among other spots, we stopped in at new spots The Highwater and Madam Marie’s.  We will have brief thoughts on both bars in the days ahead.  Stay tuned.

Bowery Boogie recently reported the closure of Paulaner’s Lower East Side brewpub location.

Our thoughts:

During its four years in business, we’ve visited Paulaner on several NYC pub crawls.  We enjoyed our time at Paulaner and are sad to see it go.  The beer was great, the staff was friendly and the food was solid.  We echo Bowery Boogie’s sentiments that perhaps Paulaner’s physical location on the Bowery may have not been the best.  We realize it’s difficult to find the exact right location for a bar/brewery of its size anywhere in Manhattan.  The LES location on Bowery was likely more affordable rent-wise than a spot further uptown.  Perhaps Paulaner can find another spot in Manhattan or elsewhere in the five boroughs.  Paulaner will be missed.
