A review of Long Acre Tavern in Midtown Manhattan

Located at 146 W. 46th street in Midtown Manhattan, Long Acre Tavern is a contemporary Irish (American) pub. This spot had been fighting for its liquor license for much of 2019 and in early August, it succeeded. During our visit, the full food menu was still TBD.  The tap beer selection numbered around 18, but was lacking in its craft beer selection.

The Long Acre Tavern gets its name from the previous name for Times Square, which was called long acre square prior to the early 20th century.  We look forward to returning here on our next NYC bar crawl through the area.

The tap beer selection at Svendale Brewing Co. in Brooklyn’s Cobble Hill

Below is a photo of the tap selection at Svendale’s half-pint sized tasting room, located at 486 Court Street in Brooklyn.  The tap room offers 16 tap beers made at its farm brewery in Dutchess County, NY.  Not only is the beer tasty, we also found particularly notable the pour sizes typically come in four different offerings: 4oz, 8oz, 12oz and 16oz.  We don’t recall seeing such a variety of pour sizes in all of our NYC bar hopping experience.  We look forward to returning here.

A review of Jackdaw in Manhattan’s East Village

Located at 213 Second Avenue in Manhattan’s East Village, Jackdaw is a recently-opened cocktail bar in the old Durden space (and Nightingale before Durden).  The space is evenly divided between the bar one side with mainly high-top table seating on the other side of the space.  The featured house cocktails number around ten and run $14 a piece, which is perhaps a hair cheaper than the going rate for artisanal cocktails for Manhattan in 2019.  The beer selection consists of ten mainly quality craft tap beers and another ten or so bottled/canned options.  The food menu is limited, think bar bites, flatbreads and cheese/charcuterie.  Jackdaw is a great spot for your next Second Avenue East Village NYC bar crawl.

A review of Jungle Bird in Manhattan’s Chelsea

Located at 174 8th Avenue in Manhattan’s Chelsea, Jungle Bird is a recently-opened cocktail destination.  Jungle Bird offers its own house cocktails at $15 a piece, which, in our estimation, seems to be the going rate for artisanal cocktails in 2019.  Staff is friendly and the space is vibrant.  Jungle Bird opens at 3pm daily.  Include this spot on your next Chelsea NYC pub crawl.  You won’t be disappointed.
