A few spots in Brooklyn have caught our attention recently and we look forward to pub crawling to. In Williamsburg, replacing Satellite Bar at 143 Havermeyer St is JackBar. We gather that this spot has some old-school arcade and craftbeer (so, perhaps another Barcade type place??). About one mile northwest of JackBar, we gather that Dirck the Norseman has finally opened! Supposedly the first brewpub to open in the city since the 1990s, we can’t wait to get to Dirck (we hope this will be an anchor spot of any Greenpoint NYC beer bar crawl). Finally, Mad Dog & Beans (of Stone Street in Manhattan’s Financial District) has opened a second location in Carroll Gardens at 276 Smith Street. As always, we will have reviews of these three spots in this space not long after our visits there.

Queens bars we look forward to visiting
A few spots in Queens have caught our attention recently and we look forward to pub crawling to. In Long Island City, Woodbines, located at 47-10 Vernon Blvd, sounds like a solid spot. We’ve visited its sister spots around the city (Brickyard in Hell’s Kitchen and Kent Ale House in Williamsburg) and we’ve enjoyed our time there. Over in Forest Hills on Queens Blvd is Banter Irish Bar & Kitchen. Finally, in Astoria, Snowdonia (34-55 32nd Street) looks interesting. Forthcoming reviews on these places. Check this space next week for recently-opened spots in Brooklyn we have on our NYC bar crawl list.
Now THAT is an Olive platter!
Two suggested Brooklyn Distillery pub crawls
A recent Thrillist article (http://dld.bz/dhGww) outlined two suggested Brooklyn pub crawls, featuring the recently-opened distilleries in the borough. Both bar crawls sound intriguing. The first pub crawl highlights Greenpoint/Williamsburg and the second bar crawl traverses Red Hook. Of the seven distilleries across the two NYC pub crawls, we’ve had the pleasure of visiting Cacao Prieto Distillery and the New York Distilling Co. The latter of which we highly recommend visiting. It’s a good stop for any NYC bar crawl around Williamsburg.

Happy First Saturday of March!
Our favorite non-holiday random calendar day of the year! The arrival of the First Saturday of March is very meaningful to us at Pub Crawl NYC. Though the calendar still says winter, March marks the end of the super-cold, long, dark winter months of December, January and February. Spring (and good pub crawling weather) is just ahead.
And if you’re looking for a pub crawl today, here are two options:
Lindy Promotions is sponsoring its 19th annual Second Avenue Mardi Gras stroll, starting at 1pm in Midtown East. More details here: http://www.lindypromo.com/event/2nd-ave-mardi-gras-stroll/
Pubcrawls.com is sponsoring its annual Hoboken, NJ St. Patrick’s pub crawl today. More details here: http://clubtickets.ws/events/leprecon-day-hoboken-pub-crawl-saturday-march-1-2014-2/
And across the pond in England…
A recent NY Times article that we came to our attention: http://dld.bz/dhGv7. This article describes the closing of pubs in and around the city of London. For a number of reasons (among others, higher rents, decreasing popularity of beer in England), pubs are closing for business.
Our thoughts:
We hope this trend reverses. We’ve had the pleasure of visiting London twice and there’s really nothing quite like the English pub here in NYC. We suppose Pound & Pence in Manhattan’s Financial District comes the closest. Either way, if/when you visit London, be sure to do a pub crawl while there!
NYC bars to visit
Some bars on our NYC pub crawling radar: In Manhattan’s Financial District, another bar for the Stone Street NYC bar crawl: Bavaria Bierhaus, a German beer and food spot. Over in the Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Botanic Lab, a cocktail bar, at 86 Orchard Street. And just across the East River and a little bit north, on the Greenpoint/Williamsburg border at 7 N. 15th Street, is Dirck the Norseman. We gather that this spot is another German beer and food establishment. We hope it’s a good addition to the Greenpoint NYC beer bar crawl. Reviews forthcoming on these three spots.
Happy Presidents’ Day!
Our Bar of the Day: Porterhouse at Fraunces Tavern in Manhattan’s Financial District.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Pub Crawl NYC wishes you a Happy Valentine’s Day. Our picks for some good wine bars include Maslow 6 and Another Room (both on West Broadway in Tribeca) and Ayza (two locations, one in the West Village and one in Midtown South).
