A review of Cloud Social in Manhattan's Midtown South

Located at 6 West 32nd Street atop the NYMA hotel, Cloud Social is another rooftop bar for the Empire State Building view NYC bar crawl. Seventeen floors above 32nd Street, Cloud Social is a smallish space.  The main seating area, just beyond the bar area, is on the southern half of the roof deck.  Looking up to the north provides patrons a larger than life view of the Empire State Building (see photo below).  Ten classic cocktails are available at $12-14 a piece.  Happy hour specials include select beer, wine and shots.  Cloud Social opens daily at 3pm.

A review of Shorty in Manhattan's Soho

Located at 20 Prince Street, Shorty is a subterranean cocktail bar below the restaurant Jacques 1534. This space was formerly the cocktail bar, 1534 (and Gibraltar before it was 1534). We think Shorty alludes to Napoleon Bonaparte.  Shorty offers ten house cocktails at (only) $13 a piece, plus a few wines/beers.  A small food menu is available from the kitchen upstairs.  A few round booths and banquette seating take up most of the space, plus a few seats at the small bar.  Shorty’s opens at 8pm daily, Monday through Saturday.

A review of The Black Rose in Manhattan's Alphabet City

Located at 117 Avenue A in Manhattan’s Alphabet City, the Black Rose is a new cocktail bar in what used to be Odessa’s Bar. Layout is somewhat similar to the previous space (bar on right side upon entering, seating on the left). Five tap beers available, but the main liquid draw here are the house cocktails. The Black Rose is a good, chill spot next time you’re bar hopping along Avenue A.

A review of The Long Hall in Manhattan's Midtown South

Located at 58 East 34th Street (in the old Murray Bar space), The Long Hall is a spacious and well-lit bi-level Irish pub located just east of the Empire State Building. Ten different draft import and domestic beers (repeated once for a total of 20 taps) are available. Part of the wall behind the bar is adorned with canned goods and boxes of Barry’s Tea. Seating areas consist of a mix of hi-top tables and booths for parties of 2-6. The Long Hall is worth a visit if you live/work nearby.

A review of Brooklyn Colony in Gowanus, Brooklyn

Located at 274 4th Avenue on the Park Slope/Gowanus border in Brooklyn, Brooklyn Colony is a spacious sports bar, just a few blocks south of the Union Street R-train stop. The space has three different areas. A few video games greet patrons just past the entrance. The main bar area immediately follows. Past the bar area is a fairly large seating area. Eight draught beers are available, along with a full bar. Several TVs are available for your sports viewing pleasure. Brooklyn Colony has a daily happy hour that runs 3 – 7pm and has Live Music on some nights.
