December 5, 2019 marks the 86th anniversary of the end of U.S. Prohibition. On this date in 1933, Utah became the 36th U.S. state to ratify the 21st Amendment to the United States Constitution (achieving the required 75% of states to approve the amendment). This ratification overturned the 18th Amendment, which outlawed alcohol in the United States. So, how will you be marking the anniversary today, with a bar crawl in NYC perhaps? A review of Silver Light Tavern in Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Located at 689 Lorimer Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Silver Light Tavern is a great neighborhood spot that opened in mid-2019 and is in the running for our favorite new Brooklyn bar opening of 2019. Silver Light Tavern offers a nice mix of beer, wine and house cocktails, which run (only) $13/drink. The food menu, while somewhat limited, offers a mix of bistro and gastropub fare. Despite the recent opening date, the space feels as though it’s been around for a long time. Add in the friendly staff and this spot is a must-visit on your next Williamsburg NYC pub crawl. Silver Light Tavern opens for business at 4pm daily, with weekend brunch starting at 11am.
Happy Small Business Saturday 2019!
Since most bars are small businesses, we recommend a pub crawl today as a way to mark the occasion!
Happy Thanksgiving 2019!

A review of Hidden Pearl in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint
Located at 621 Manhattan Avenue at the back of the Wanpaku Ramen restaurant in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint, The Hidden Pearl is a Japanese-inspired cocktail bar. The space is rather small, seating no more than 20 patrons. So, you probably want to consider making reservations before your visit here, though walk-ins are welcome on a first-come first-served basis. The Hidden Pearl’s menu offers craft cocktails, beer, wine, sake and Japanese small plates. The Hidden Pearl is open Wednesday through Sunday starting at 6pm.
A review of Magazine Bar in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint
Located at 130 Franklin Street in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint, Magazine picks up where Shayz Lounge left off. The layout at Magazine is similar to that of Shayz Lounge, with a small outdoor area in back. Friendly staff, free popcorn and some comfortable couch-like seating make this place a go to for your next night of bar hopping through Greenpoint.
Bar hopping through Brooklyn’s Greenpoint
We recently had an opportunity for some NYC bar crawling through the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn. We visited such spots as Magazine and Hidden Pearl, among others. We’ll share some brief thoughts on these spots in the coming days. Stay tuned!

A review of Bar Shun in Manhattan’s Midtown East
Located on the second floor above the French-Japanese restaurant Shun at 610 Lexington Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, Bar Shun is a luxurious entity all unto itself. This spot isn’t simply where a patron might have a drink or three while waiting for a table at Shun downstairs. Bar Shun is an upscale cocktail bar worthy of an after-work visit or if you’re fancy-bar hopping around Midtown/Midtown East. Bar Shun opens for business at 5pm daily.
