Located at 765 9th Avenue (in the old Stecchino space) in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen, The Cannery is a new sports bar and gastropub (from same owners as Lilly O’Brien’s further downtown in Tribeca). Ten tap beers and cocktails are the main liquid draw here. Food menu can be best described as a combo of upscale bar and bistro fare. This spot will make for a good place for college or pro football watching in the fall. Definitely stop in for a drink the next time you’re bar hopping along Ninth Avenue.
A review of The Malt House in Manhattan's Financial District
Located at 9 Maiden Lane in Manhattan’s Financial District, The Malt House recently opened its second location following the success of their first location in Greenwich Village. The Financial District location is more sizeable than its Greenwich Village counterpart. A large bar area greets patrons upon entering. Some seating in back, along with a small second floor level opposite the main bar area. The draw at The Malt House is their solid craft beer selection. Over 30 frequently-rotated taps are available. The staff is friendly and can help you make a beer decision if you’re having difficulty deciding. This is a great spot. If you live/work nearby, add The Malt House FiDi to your rotation.
Only three weeks remain to visit this unique NYC bar
A recent New York Daily News article (http://dld.bz/dN75H) informs of the forthcoming closing of business of the bar Hogs & Heifers. It’s a bar from a bygone era, back when the Meatpacking District actually had some meat packing activity. We’re surprised that the bar wasn’t forced out of business due to rising rent prior to 2015. RIP, Hogs & Heifers, you will be missed.

A review of Gramercy Ale House in Manhattan
Located at 272 Third Avenue in Manhattan’s Gramercy neighborhood, Gramercy Ale House is a reboot of the old Copper Door Tavern. Gramercy Ale House is part sports bar / part Irish pub. For drinks, Gramercy Ale House offers 24 quality and standard tap beers, along with a full bar. For food, the spot offers its own unique take on bar fare. This is a great spot for your next NYC pub crawl along Third Avenue.
Happy Birthday to New York State!
It was 227 years ago on this date that New York State ratified the United States Constitution, becoming the 11th state to do so. Therefore, July 26th is a great day to drink some New York State beer and eat some New York State food. A great beer bar for the occasion is Little Town NYC in Union Square, which focuses on NY beer and food. Today is also a great day for a NYC pub crawl!

A review of Cloud Social in Manhattan's Midtown South
Located at 6 West 32nd Street atop the NYMA hotel, Cloud Social is another rooftop bar for the Empire State Building view NYC bar crawl. Seventeen floors above 32nd Street, Cloud Social is a smallish space. The main seating area, just beyond the bar area, is on the southern half of the roof deck. Looking up to the north provides patrons a larger than life view of the Empire State Building (see photo below). Ten classic cocktails are available at $12-14 a piece. Happy hour specials include select beer, wine and shots. Cloud Social opens daily at 3pm.
A review of Shorty in Manhattan's Soho
Located at 20 Prince Street, Shorty is a subterranean cocktail bar below the restaurant Jacques 1534. This space was formerly the cocktail bar, 1534 (and Gibraltar before it was 1534). We think Shorty alludes to Napoleon Bonaparte. Shorty offers ten house cocktails at (only) $13 a piece, plus a few wines/beers. A small food menu is available from the kitchen upstairs. A few round booths and banquette seating take up most of the space, plus a few seats at the small bar. Shorty’s opens at 8pm daily, Monday through Saturday.
