Here’s a NYC bar crawl with an Octoberfest theme for Saturday, September 17. Ulyssses is sponsoring their annual Octoberfest on Stone Street in Manhattan’s Financial District. It’s an opportunity for some bar hopping along Stone Street and visit Ulysses and other nearby establishments, such as Vintry, The Growler and Adrienne’s. Since two of the teams playing on Monday, September 12 include the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Francisco 49ers, our co-NYC bars of the Day: Hibernia, located at 401 West 50th Street in Manhattan’s in Hell’s Kitchen and Finnerty’s, located at 221 Second Avenue in Manhattan’s East Village.

Because it marks the unofficial end of summer, Labor Day always brings a touch of sadness to us at Pub Crawl NYC. Summer in NYC offers many opportunities of beautiful weather for NYC bar crawls and other city exploration. September is still a good weather month in NYC and, if lucky, October can be as well. But, those two months just aren’t quite the same as June, July and August. Either way, we look forward to many more NYC pub crawls in the months ahead. Happy Autumn!
Located at 3 Milton Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Brooklyn Barge is Brooklyn’s version of Manhattan’s Frying Pan. Brooklyn Barge occupies a small floating barge docked on the East River and also encompasses a section on land next to the docked barge. The barge is the main bar area and where patrons can order food and drink. Back on land is the kitchen where patrons can pick up their food orders as well as some tables for eating and drinking. The views of Manhattan are spectacular and patrons can easily spend all day here soaking up the sun on a late summer’s day. The spot is out-of-the-way, but it’s well worth a visit.
The sign in the photo below (“In Dog Beers, I’ve only had one”) caught our eye at the bar Miles, located at 101 Wilson Avenue.
Earlier this month, during the recent very hot/humid weather in NYC, we passed by this chalkboard outside of the Mexican restaurant and bar Bodega Negra.
Located at the corner of Broad and Stone Streets in Manhattan’s Financial District, Broadstone Bar & Kitchen is a gastropub / craft-beer bar that opened for business just last week. After we have a chance to visit Broadstone on our next NYC pub crawl through the area, we’ll provide a brief review in this space.
According to at least two sources (New York Times and DNAinfo), Chumley’s, located at 86 Bedford Street in Manhattan’s West Village, will finally reopen on September 6 after nearly a decade of closure following a wall collapse inside the space. Chumley’s started business back in the 1920s as a true speakeasy during the Prohibition in the U.S. We’ve visited Chumley’s on numerous NYC pub crawls over the years and are very happy to learn that it will re-open in just a few weeks.
It’s been a while since our last bar crawl through the northwestern corner of Brooklyn. In that time, Fresh Kills, a cocktail spot named after the old Staten Island landfill, opened at 161 Grand Street. A bit further north, Falcon Laundry, a cocktail bar with a rooftop, opened at 65 North 7th Street. Finally, Brooklyn Barge Bar, located at 3 Milton Street in Greenpoint, is an outdoor spot open for its first full summer. We hope to make it to Brooklyn Barge Bar before the summer of 2016 is over. We look forward to describing each spot briefly in this space.
