Located at 127 Avenue C in Manhattan’s Alphabet City, Loverboy takes over the space formerly knowns as Lume (an Epicurean Drinkery). Loverboy’s alcohol focus is mainly on craft cocktails, though a few tap beers are also available. Food offerings are mainly Italian snacks and several types of square-sliced pizza; a perfect pairing with a few beers or cocktails. Loveryboy is a worth a visit on your next bar hopping excursion along Avenue C.

A review of Sanatorium in Manhattan’s Alphabet City
Located at 14 Avenue C in Manhattan’s Alphabet City, Sanatorium is a hospital-themed cocktail-focused bar/lounge. The layout includes a standing room only bar on the left side of the space, with the majority of the space taken up by low-level lounge-style seating. Cocktails are all the rage right now and, at $15/drink, Sanatorium’s cocktail price is somewhat mid-range for Manhattan. In addition, staff was friendly, but we wonder how long a place like this will last in its current location on Avenue C. Stop in here on your next Avenue C NYC bar crawl. Note that Sanatorium has a rather late opening hour. On the day of our visit, the spot opened for business at 8pm.
A review of The Hairy Lemon in Manhattan’s Alphabet City
Located at 28 Avenue B in Manhattan’s Alphabet City, The Hairy Lemon picks up where Croxley Ales left off. The Hairy Lemon is more neighborhood sports bar then neighborhood craft beer bar. The Hairy Lemon serves 20 tap beers, but most were not of the particularly hard-to-find variety. The space feels materially different from Croxley Ales, though the new owners did keep one church pew for seating that the former occupant used in abundance. Stop in here on your next Avenue B NYC bar crawl.
A review of Circa Brewing in Downtown Brooklyn
Located at 141 Lawrence Street in rapidly re-developing Downtown Brooklyn, Circa Brewing is a spacious restaurant-brewpub whose food specialty includes pizza. The beer offerings listed on the menu were numerous, though the bar tender informed us that a few kegs had been kicked. We believe this is the first brewpub to open in Brooklyn and it’s one of those spots that doesn’t feel as though it’s Brooklyn or any part of NYC, really. Circa Brewing is open for lunch and dinner everyday. If you’re a fan of craft beer, then you need to visit Circa Brewing.
A review of Sir Henri Rooftop Bar in Manhattan’s Flatiron District
Located at 37 West 24th Street atop the Hotel Henri in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, the Sir Henri rooftop bar offers eye level view of the other 20-something story buildings in the immediate area (photo below shows the Flatiron building at sunset). Despite being a rooftop bar, the space has much more of a winter-spot feel to it. Not much window seating is available here (at least compared to other recently-opened rooftop spots around the city) and views are to the south only. Still, Sir Henri rooftop bar is worth a look next time your bar hopping in the neighborhood.
A review of Fresh Kills in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg
Located at 161 Grand Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Fresh Kills is an artisanal cocktail bar for the busy intersection of Grand Street and Bedford Avenue. The featured cocktails here cost $15, so be prepared to open your wallet if you plan on spending some quality time at Fresh Kills. Staff is attentive and the vibe is a friendly one. An expensive, but solid spot for any NYC pub crawl along Bedford Avenue or Grand Street.
A visit to Reclamation in Brooklyn’s East Williamsburg
Located at 817 Metropolitan Avenue in Brooklyn’s East Williamsburg, Reclamation is a slightly out-of-the-way spot that offers craft-beers and small batch hard liquor. Reclamation is a fairly spacious spot with a small backyard. We found the establishment vaguely reminiscent of the nearby bar The Richardson; we’re unaware if the two have the same ownership/management. We enjoyed our visit to Reclamation and look forward to returning here.
A visit to Tiki Tabu on Manhattan’s Lower East Side
Located on the 7th floor of the Hotel Sixty LES on the northern edge of Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Tiki Tabu is a seasonal outdoor drinking spot. The space offers some great views of Midtown to the north and the Financial District to the south as well as areas in between. Fairly spacious, Tiki Tabu offers a range of tropical drinks plus beer and wine. It’s a great place for after-work drinks as well as later-in-the-evening DJ music with dancing.
A visit to The Crown in Manhattan’s Chinatown
Located at 50 Bowery atop the 50 Bowery Hotel, The Crown is a new rooftop bar for Lower Manhattan with amazing views of Midtown, downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn. We got the feeling that the door may be a little difficult late at night, so it’s probably better to visit here during happy hour (the bar opens for business daily at 5pm). It’s a great spot. Though keep in mind, as with the case with numerous NYC rooftop hotel bars, since the drinks aren’t cheap, remember that you’re paying for the view as well.
A visit to Kimoto Rooftop Lounge in Downtown Brooklyn
Located at 216 Duffield Street in Downtown Brooklyn, atop the Aloft Hotel, Kimoto Rooftop is a rooftop garden lounge with great views of Brooklyn and New York Harbor. This is a spot we’ve been wanting to check out for quite a while. We suggest coming on a weekday afternoon before the summer is over. During our brief visit, we got the feeling that the place might possess a tough door on a weekend night. Anyway, lots of craft-beer and cocktails to choose from plus the friendly staff make this Kimoto Rooftop a must-see.
