Located at 35-15 Broadway in Astoria, Queens, Madam Marie’s is another Coney Island-themed craft-beer bar from the same folks as Astoria’s Judy & Punch, which is located two blocks north on 30th Avenue. Madam Marie’s (which used to be the Croatian hangout Scorpio Bar) space looks a lot like that of Judy & Punch. Madam Marie’s offers about a dozen draught craft beers and another dozen or so bottled/canned craft beers. The spot is a great addition to any Astoria NYC craft-beer bar crawl. We can’t wait until our next visit here.

A review of The Highwater in Astoria, Queens
Located at 34-20 Broadway in Astoria, Queens, The Highwater is a bar/restaurant that calls itself, “Astoria’s Best Tropical inspired restaurant”. During our visit, we found The Highwater more bar than restaurant. The craft cocktail selection offers numerous creative drinks, usually costing $11/drink (take that, expensive Manhattan cocktail spots!). The dozen or so craft beer offerings are all bottled/canned and span numerous breweries across the U.S. In addition to Saturday/Sunday brunch, the main food menu primarily offers appetizers. With its corner location (at the southwest corner of Broadway and 35th Street), the Highwater is filled with lots of natural light. We look forward to returning here on our next Astoria NYC bar crawl.
A review of Second Floor at Second Ave Deli on Manhattan’s Upper East Side
Located at 1442 First Avenue in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Second Floor is a speakeasy-style spot atop the Second Ave Deli’s First Avenue location. Somewhat hard to find, the entrance to the bar is around the corner on 75th Street. After climbing a flight of stairs, patrons will be greeted at a host station and then can take a seat at the small-ish bar or a table. The staff is attentive and the drink options are plentiful. Second Floor offers both classic cocktails as well as some of their own. Beer and wine are also available. We look forward to returning here.
A review of The Rochard on Manhattan’s Upper East Side
Located at 1504 Lexington Avenue in Manhattan’s (Upper) Upper East Side, The Rochard is a solid beer bar from the same owners as The Jeffrey a few miles to the south and east. During our visit, there were around 20 quality tap beers available, along with wine (no hard liquor). Overall, we found The Rochard a great addition to the immediate area because we do not know of any other beer bars that are nearby this location. Definitely stop in here on your next NYC pub crawl through the neighborhood.
A review of Charc Bar on Manhattan’s Upper East Side
Located at 318 East 84th Street, Charc Bar is a wine and charcuterie bar located on a tranquil block in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. If you want to enjoy a quiet drink or three, this is the spot for you! Long and rather narrow, Charc Bar focuses on wine and the perfect type of food to go with that wine. There’s also a small selection of bottled/canned beers and a limited full bar to complement the wine.
A review of Gibson & Luce in Manhattan’s Midtown South
Located at 19 West 31st Street, Gibson & Luce is a speakeasy-style bar in the basement level of the Life Hotel. According to some, this space was a true speakeasy back in the Prohibition era. Now, it’s an early 21st century era NYC “speakeasy”. Patrons can enter directly from the street by climbing down a few stairs to the somewhat unmarked door (see photo below) or through the hotel lobby and take the elevator down one level. The bar seats around 10 patrons and other table seating is good for parties of 2 to 6. We figure this space can get crowded fairly quickly, so it’s probably a good idea to arrive early.
A visit to Beer Authority in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen
Located at 300 West 40th Street in the shadow of Manhattan’s Port Authority Bus Terminal, Beer Authority is a solid spot for any NYC beer bar crawl through the neighborhood. We’ve been here numerous times since it opened in 2012. We hadn’t been here in a while and figured a visit was in order. The spot is doing as great as ever.
A review of Bar Gonzo in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen
Located at 515 Ninth Avenue at the southern edge of Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen, Bar Gonzo is a bi-level spot connected to Cassa Times Square Hotel (a smidge too far west and south to be a “Times Square” hotel, we think). The ground level has a small bar and seating area. The second floor bar area looks west and is significantly larger. It’s an enclosed spot that (we expect) will have open windows once the weather warms up. There’s a Hunter S. Thompson theme going on here. Stop in here on your next Ninth Avenue NYC bar crawl.
A review of West Wine Bar in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint
Located at 67 West St in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint Waterfront area, West Wine Bar is located in an old brick factory building. We don’t often use the word “charming” to describe the many establishments we visit, but West Wine Bar is just that — charming. Offering nearly 30 wines by glass/bottle and 17 bottled/canned beers/ciders, West Wine Bar is a must-visit for your next Greenpoint bar crawl. The space is not too big or too small with what looks like original floorboards. In addition to the sizable L-shaped bar, there are several two-person tables and one communal table for seating.
A review of Pinball Beer Hall at Sunshine Laundromat
Located at 860 Manhattan Ave, Pinball Beer Hall is a craft beer bar and pinball paradise in the back of swirling laundromat. After walking past a bunch of laundry machines, patron enter the bar through a door that looks like a clothes drier. The bar in the back is lined with over 20 pinball machines. The bar offers eight frequently rotating quality craft beers from around the U.S. there are also numerous board games to play. We think it’s a great place for a group of friends to visit. The bar opens at 4pm daily.
