A review of Bill Baker's in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Located off the beaten path at 364 Grand Street, along the border between North Side and South Side in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg, Bill Baker’s is a solid craft beer bar to begin or end your Brooklyn NYC Grand Street bar crawl. The 16 tap beers are mainly from the tri-state area. Food is a mix of upscale bar and bistro fare. Sidewalk seating is available in warm weather, though the nearby BQE doesn’t make Bill Baker’s the best outdoor drinking spot in the area. The layout is half bar and half table seating. Bill Baker’s is an overall great spot.

A review of Mr. Fong's in Manhattan's Chinatown

Located at 40 Market Street, way off the beaten path in Manhattan’s Chinatown (or is it Two Bridges?), Mr. Fong’s is the latest cool/chill spot to open below Canal Street. Mr. Fong’s feels as though it’s been in this space for a long time, even though it opened in mid-summer 2015. Mr. Fong’s has its own house cocktails and a few craft beers. The juke box is just for show. A few booths serve as window seating. A 12-seat bar takes up a good chunk of the space and the rest of the space is for standing room. Whether or not you live/work nearby, add Mr. Fong’s to your to-do list. It’ll be worth your while.

A review of Stout NYC near Grand Central Terminal, part 2

See below for part 1 of our review of Stout NYC near Grand Central Terminal. Twenty-four mostly-quality tap beers are a big draw here. The food menu includes bar appetizers, different types of burgers and other non-burger sandwiches. This location of Stout NYC is open daily starting at lunchtime and closes for business around 2am at the earliest. The staff is friendly and the food is tasty; we look forward to our next visit to this location of Stout NYC.

Stout NYC GCT 1

A review of Stout NYC near Grand Central Terminal, part 1

Located at 60 East 41st Street in Midtown Manhattan, Stout NYC expands its empire with this third location, adding to its already successful Penn Station and Financial District spots. This bi-level space is similar to the other two locations, as a combination Irish /craft-beer / sports bar with decent eats. Its location just south of Grand Central Terminal should bring in numerous office workers / commuters, as there are not many bar options in the few blocks immediately south of GCT.  Check back later this week for Part 2 of our visit to Stout NYC.

A review of McGettigan’s Irish pub in Midtown Manhattan, part 2

Click here for part 1 of our review of McGettigan’s. The pub’s layout includes the following: A crescent moon-shaped bar greets patrons on the left just past the entrance. High-top tables opposite the bar and seating in back and on the second level. There’s also a small second level just above the entrance that offers window seating, along with a few tables for outdoor seating. There’s also some seating on a mid level area directly behind the bar.

We look forward to our next visit to McGettigan’s. If you work nearby, make McGettigan’s your new after-work go to spot.

McGettigans 1

A review of McGettigan's Irish pub in Midtown Manhattan, part 1

Located at 70 West 36th street (just northeast of Herald Sq), McGettigan’s is a spacious, bi-level Irish pub. The layout and ambiance is like no other Irish nyc pub we’ve seen (and we’ve seen almost all of them!).  McGettigan’s is a family owned spot and has locations in Ireland and others around the world. This is their first US location. At least 8 flat screen TVs are mounted optimally around the space. Tap beers number 24 of mostly quality crafts. The bottled beer selection was fairly standard. Bar food can be best described as upscale bar/pub fare.  Check back later this week for Part 2 of our visit to McGettigan’s.

A review of Bar Rua in Manhattan's Murray Hill

Located at 497 Third Avenue, Bar Rua is an Irish pub/ sports bar located along a stretch of Third Ave with numerous other sports bars. This spot used to be Patrick Kavanaugh’s (and, briefly, pig n whistle in between). With fewer tables and more standing room, Bar Rua feels more spacious than its previous incarnations. There’s a small room on the back for private events. Food offerings are fairly standard for a sports bar (bar apps, burgers, sandwiches and other entrees). The $10 lunch special is fairly generous and includes the choice of an app and an entree. This is a great stop for your next Murray hill NYC bar crawl.

A review of Handcraft Kitchen & Cocktails in Manhattan's Kips Bay

Located at 367 Third Avenue in Manhattan’s Kips Bay, Handcraft is a recently-opened cocktail and wine bar. We found the craftbeer selection to be notable as well. We stumbled upon this spot within a few weeks after it opened, so the kitchen was not yet fully operational during our visit. Thus, we’re not able to provide a first-hand view on the food offerings. The place is fairly spacious and a nice alternative to some of the other bars that operate along this stretch of Third Avenue. We look forward to a return visit.

A review of Jasper's Taphouse in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen

Located at 761 9th Avenue (on the NW corner with 51st Street) in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen, Jasper’s Taphouse is a solid addition to any craftbeer bar crawl through this part of town. Jasper’s offers 20 tap beers, including a good emphasis on local, tri-state area brewed beers. Jasper’s is a spacious spot offering bar area seating and some seating for dining. Food offerings include upscale bar appetizers, along with burgers and sandwiches. Brunch on weekends includes a complimentary bloody mary or mimosa. Jasper’s opens on weekdays at 11am and on weekends at 10am. Jasper’s is a great spot and we look forward to returning here on our next 9th avenue pub crawl!

A review of The Cannery in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen

Located at 765 9th Avenue (in the old Stecchino space) in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen, The Cannery is a new sports bar and gastropub (from same owners as Lilly O’Brien’s further downtown in Tribeca). Ten tap beers and cocktails are the main liquid draw here. Food menu can be best described as a combo of upscale bar and bistro fare. This spot will make for a good place for college or pro football watching in the fall. Definitely stop in for a drink the next time you’re bar hopping along Ninth Avenue.
