The status of some South Street Seaport bars five weeks after Sandy

A few weeks go, we reported that most of the South Street Seaport bars were still closed for business in the Sandy aftermath.  We took another visit there recently and are unhappy to report that not much has improved.  Of the bars closed three weeks ago, Heartland Brewery, Fresh Salt, Stella, Keg 229, Bin 220, Nelson Blue and the Paris Cafe, all remain closed and most entrances to those bars indicate “Restricted Use Only”.  A couple of photos below.

This is Fresh Salt, now completed boarded up.
This was the main bar area of Hearltand Brewery. You can see the outline in the floor toward the rear of the room where the physical bar was.

If you know a more detailed status of any of the bars listed above, please drop us a note.

The status of some South Street Seaport bars two weeks after Sandy

We took a short walk through the area recently.  In short, many of the bars remain closed.  Only Jeremy’s Ale House and Meade’s were open for business at the time of our brief tour.  Everything else we passed by was not open, including Heartland Brewery, Fresh Salt, Stella, Keg 229, Bin 220, Nelson Blue and the Paris Cafe.  If you know a more detailed status of any of these bars, please drop us a comment or email.  We hope every single establishment can re-open.  We’ve enjoyed all of them on several occasions.  Below are a few photos from our tour.

Is a new bar coming to 77 Delancey Street in Manhattan?

On a recent walk by the southeastern corner of Allen & Delancey Streets on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, it was noticed that some work was being done inside the establishment formerly known as White Slab Palace (we wrote about White Slab Palace’s closing in a post mentioning the paring down of the LES craft-beer focused NYC bar crawl).  The doors and windows were open and two people were working on the bar area.  The physical bar was still in the same place as before.  Do you know what is going into this spot?  Pub Crawl Brooklyn would like to know!  Share your comment here.
