Located at 673 Atlantic Avenue across the street from the eastern end of Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Atlantic Social is a spacious restaurant and bar. It almost feels like a spot you’ll find in a suburb or in a rapidly expanding city in the sun belt. The food featured Detroit pizza (somewhat reminiscent of a smaller and thinner-crust version of Sicilian pie) and other bar-friendly food. Overall, we found Atlantic Social a good spot for before or after an event at Barclays Center.

A visit to Shorty’s in Brooklyn’s Prospect Heights
Located at 229 Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn’s Prospect Heights, Shorty’s NYC is the establishment’s fifth location and the first outside of Manhattan. Shorty’s NYC brings its craft-beer and Philly cheesesteak formula to the Barclays Center area. This location is probably the smallest in size of the five Shorty’s. As expected, the craft-beer selection is solid and includes about twenty draught beers, some local and other U.S. regional craft-beer. You’ll want to include this spot for your next Flatbush Avenue NYC bar crawl.

A review of Madam Marie’s in Astoria, Queens
Located at 35-15 Broadway in Astoria, Queens, Madam Marie’s is another Coney Island-themed craft-beer bar from the same folks as Astoria’s Judy & Punch, which is located two blocks north on 30th Avenue. Madam Marie’s (which used to be the Croatian hangout Scorpio Bar) space looks a lot like that of Judy & Punch. Madam Marie’s offers about a dozen draught craft beers and another dozen or so bottled/canned craft beers. The spot is a great addition to any Astoria NYC craft-beer bar crawl. We can’t wait until our next visit here.

A review of The Highwater in Astoria, Queens
Located at 34-20 Broadway in Astoria, Queens, The Highwater is a bar/restaurant that calls itself, “Astoria’s Best Tropical inspired restaurant”. During our visit, we found The Highwater more bar than restaurant. The craft cocktail selection offers numerous creative drinks, usually costing $11/drink (take that, expensive Manhattan cocktail spots!). The dozen or so craft beer offerings are all bottled/canned and span numerous breweries across the U.S. In addition to Saturday/Sunday brunch, the main food menu primarily offers appetizers. With its corner location (at the southwest corner of Broadway and 35th Street), the Highwater is filled with lots of natural light. We look forward to returning here on our next Astoria NYC bar crawl.
