A review of Philomena’s in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Located at 790 Grand Street in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Philomena’s is a recently-opened cocktail and craft beer bar.  The space is welcoming, with about half-bar seating as well as a few booths and high-top tables opposite the bar.  Seven draught beers pour mainly NY State offerings; nine house cocktails cost a reasonable $13 per drink. Window seating offers prime people watching along Grand Street.  Add in Philomena’s friendly staff and this spot is a must-visit for your next Grand Street Brooklyn bar crawl.

December 5 marks the 88th anniversary of the end of Prohibition in the United States

December 5, 2021 marks the 88th anniversary of the end of U.S. Prohibition. On this date in 1933, Utah became the 36th U.S. state to ratify the 21st Amendment to the United States Constitution (achieving the required 75% of states to approve the amendment). This ratification overturned the 18th Amendment, which outlawed alcohol in the United States. How will you be marking the anniversary today?

New NYC Bar Alert: Tavern on Reade in Manhattan’s Tribeca

Located at 59 Reade Street in Manhattan’s Tribeca, Tavern on Reade picks up where the former Maxwell’s left off.  Tavern on Reade offers 16 draught beers and a $5 draught beer happy hour specials from 4pm until 7pm Monday through Friday.  The spot was still somewhat in soft-open phase when we visited, as the kitchen was not yet open.  Add in the friendly staff and this is definitely a spot to visit on your next afternoon or evening out bar hopping in Tribeca.
