Located at 134 Ninth Avenue in Manhattan’s Chelsea, The 18th Room is another speakeasy by the same folks as next door’s Bathtub Gin. The 18th Room is named for the National Prohibition Act, which ultimately became the 18th Amendment ushering in Prohibition in the U.S. Like its Bathtub Gin sibling, the entry into 18th Room is through a Stone Street coffee shop. Based on our visit, it appears as though a reservation, if not required, is highly recommended. After entry, patrons can sit at the bar or in the somewhat spacious lounge just beyond the bar. The staff is particularly attentive, offering free popcorn and quick to fill up patrons’ water glasses. The artisanal cocktails are solid, though rather pricey at $18 a piece. If you feel like splurging on your next night out, then a visit to The 18th Room is in order.
